How do I download a GPX file from Strava?

How do I download a GPX file from Strava?

To download a GPX file from Strava, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Strava account.

  2. Go to your Dashboard and find the activity you want to download.

  3. Click on the activity to open its detail page.

  4. Click on the three dots located at the right side of the page and select "Export GPX".

  5. Save the GPX file to your computer.

That's it! You now have a GPX file of your activity that you can use with other GPS devices or mapping software. Keep in mind that you can only download GPX files for activities that you have recorded with a GPS device or an app that supports GPS tracking. Strava does not support the export of GPX files for manual activities.

If you don't have a Strava Pro account, you can still download GPX files for your activities, but with some limitations. With a non-Pro account, you can only download GPX files for your own activities and not for others' activities.

Note that with a non-Pro Strava account, you may not be able to access all of the features and data included in GPX files. Upgrading to Strava Pro may give you access to additional data and features, such as detailed heart rate and power data.

Whats the difference between GPX and TCX files?

Our design your own trail map tool currently only accepts GPX files.

GPX and TCX are both digital file formats used to store GPS data, but they differ in the types of information they can store and the applications they are used for.

GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is a widely-used XML-based format that is used to store GPS data such as waypoints, tracks, and routes. GPX files can be used for outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and road cycling, and they can be easily shared and edited. GPX files are simple and lightweight, and they are compatible with a wide range of GPS devices and mapping software.

TCX (Training Center XML) is a proprietary file format developed by Garmin to store fitness data, such as workout information, heart rate data, and power data. TCX files are used by many GPS-enabled fitness devices, including Garmin Forerunner and Edge devices. TCX files are more complex and include more data than GPX files, but they are less flexible and may only be compatible with Garmin products or software.

In summary, GPX files are a simple and widely-used format that is used to store GPS data for outdoor activities, while TCX files are a more complex format that is used to store fitness data and may only be compatible with certain devices and software.
